Bioengineering
The Accelerated Master’s (AM) program is designed for students to take graduate courses along with their undergraduate courses as schedules permit. Applicants should plan to apply during their sophomore year at the latest. Students may submit an application as early as their fourth semester of the undergraduate degree. This master’s program is open only to current students with a GPA of at least 3.5. Students enrolled in this option are able to “double count” up to three courses towards both the B.S.E. and the master’s degrees. At no time should an undergraduate student be enrolled in more than 50% of graduate level courses for the graduate degree in a single term. Engineering students cannot take more than 3 CUs to count towards the master’s degree prior to acceptance and matriculation into the accelerated master’s degree. To fulfill the requirements for the M.S.E. in Bioengineering degree, students must take 10 courses at the 5000 level or above. You may choose to write a thesis or complete the non-thesis degree. Accelerated Master’s students may double count up to 3 CUs of graduate courses to fulfill both undergraduate and graduate degree requirements. This is subject to approval by both the undergraduate and graduate program chairs/directors.

Accelerated Master’s students should create a detailed academic plan noting which 3 course units they will be counting for their undergraduate and M.S. degree programs while following the guidelines of the Penn School of Engineering (no more than 50% graduate courses, no more than 3cus counting towards Master’s degree prior to acceptance, etc.).

No. Accelerated Masters students are undergraduate students until they complete all of their undergraduate degree requirements. Please remember to stay under the 50% graduate courses rule per semester or you will be charged as a graduate student.
Students may drop the Accelerated Master’s Program by submitting a graduate petition.
Engineering recognizes matriculation into one Accelerated Master’s program across the schools. We do not have dual-degree Accelerated Master’s programs. Students with any questions should contact the Graduate Engineering Academic team.
